Seeking Sales Representative
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in Conceptual Academy.
We are a company of college science professors who are also science textbook authors and producers of educational videos, podcasts, and other instructional materials. Our premise is that students embrace video as a means of learning. We have thus developed a video-centric and interactive platform we call Conceptual Academy.
Conceptual Academy hosts our multimedia content including our “video textbooks”, which are the video versions of our traditional textbooks printed by Pearson. Launched in 2013 and funded by ourselves and growing revenues, Conceptual Academy has developed into a mature and proven product now being used within three key marketing channels: universities/colleges, high schools, and homeschools.
To date, all adoptions have been gained through our own personal networking. To help bring Conceptual Academy to scale, we are looking to hire our first sales representative who will have an initial focus on the college market.
While our product is mature and proven, we are still in the early stages of development as a business. We have recently incorporated as a Public Benefit Company, but have every interest in succeeding financially. Thus, we are also looking for a sale rep who could eventually take on a leadership role with the prospect of founding our marketing and sales division.
For further perspective on who we are, you’ll find a short narrative (below) along with a pitch deck (in the side bar).
Thank you for your interest in our mission to improve science literacy. And thank you for your application consisting of a cover letter and resume sent to Support@ConceptualAcademy.com. As stated in the ad, we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience selling textbooks to colleges and universities. We will reply to all inquiries. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Good chemistry,
John

Our Story
Our “conceptual” brand of traditional science textbooks are sold worldwide in multiple languages by our publisher, Pearson. Our first conceptual science textbook was published in the early 1970s and remains today as the market leader. We have since written six market leading “Conceptual” brand textbooks, such as Conceptual Physics and Conceptual Chemistry.
Our extensive multimedia is housed within a platform called Conceptual Academy which we created independent of our textbook publisher. Conceptual Academy pulls from our growing library of multimedia to create interactive and customized courses matching the syllabus of each instructor using one of our textbooks, or even a competing textbook, and in a growing number of cases: no printed textbook at all.
We specialize in presenting the concepts of science to the math-shy student. Why is the sky blue? Do fish breathe water? How is weather different from climate? We create learning resources for college courses typically taken by students majoring in a field other than science. Because of our focus on improving basic science literacy, our college-level curricula is also widely used for introductory high school science courses and now for a growing number of homeschools. These homeschools are served by our automated self-study courses featured at LearnScience.Academy, as well as by our Conceptual Academy Instructor Network (CAIN) through which homeschools can find tutoring services and personalized Conceptual Academy courses from retired and adjunct faculty.
Conceptual Academy is appealing to students of a broad spectrum of learning styles. Not surprisingly, students overwhelmingly prefer our videos and podcasts over our paragraphs. This, combined with rapidly inflating textbook prices, means that the traditional textbook is no longer the learning centerpiece it once was. Our Conceptual Academy platform, by contrast, remains relevant, while holding much prospect for the immediate and long term future. We are a highly competitive, modern, and trusted learning platform. With the addition of a sales and marketing arm, we are positioned to scale to the level of Schoology and Khan Academy, but with a primary focus on higher education.
Conceptual Academy also offers an innovative and unique “encouragement-based” and automated homework system, described in more detail at our instructor support site: ConceptualScience.com.
In summary, Conceptual Academy is our platform for the video versions of our textbooks, which are already well-known for the deep impact they have had in the science education world. Our initial aim is marketing to the many instructors already using our conceptual curricula. To us, Conceptual Academy is our next-level opportunity. It is our passion. It is the next-generation, based upon what actually works for the instructor and student both inside and outside the classroom.
